THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has announced it will commence a preliminary investigation into Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to determine whether there are any lapses in governance or evidence of corruption, abuse of power, misappropriation, or violations of the law.

The announcement follows findings in the National Audit Report (LKAN) 1/2026 highlighting financial mismanagement and governance issues at the university.

In a statement, MACC emphasised that the investigation will be conducted professionally, independently, and in accordance with the law, without prejudice towards any party.

“Appropriate action will be taken if there is evidence of an offence under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 or any other relevant law,” the agency said.

The commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all public funds are managed with transparency, integrity, and accountability, safeguarding public trust in national higher education institutions.

“MACC is committed to ensuring that every public fund is administered transparently, with integrity and responsibility, for the benefit of the people and to maintain confidence in the nation’s higher education institutions ,” the statement added. - February 27, 2026
