MACC will pay for James Chai’s travel as he is urged to return and assist in the RM1.1 billion Arm Limited investigation
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has offered to cover travel expenses for Chai Jin Shern, also known as James Chai, to return to Malaysia and assist in investigations linked to a RM1.1 billion project between Arm Limited and the government.
MACC has so far recorded statements from 17 witnesses, including officers from the Economy Ministry and related agencies such as the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida), the New Straits Times reported.
Investigators have reportedly obtained key documents, including agreements and supporting materials and plan to record statements from an additional eight individuals, some of whom are currently overseas.
Last month, the MACC refuted claims by Chai—a former aide to ex-minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli—that he was being unfairly targeted by the agency.
The commission described his allegations as inaccurate and misleading, stating they created a false public impression of its investigative procedures.
“If Chai has nothing to hide, he should present himself and cooperate with the investigation,” the MACC said in a Notice to Trace.
The commission clarified that such a notice is issued only after repeated attempts to contact an individual via telephone, visits to their last known address, or other reasonable means have failed.
