THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today said it is investigating five companies linked to a Selangor politician under investigation over alleged corruption involving a sand mining concession.
“We are currently reviewing a few companies, with five identified so far, as they reportedly have shares associated with the arrested individual and the politician in question,” he said.
The investigation follows a raid on six more premises following an investigation into a multi-million ringgit corruption scandal involving sand mining concessions linked to Selangor MBI.
Azam also said MACC is investigating 20 projects under the Selangor Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) believed to be linked to corrupt activities.
"We will look into these 20 projects based on information indicating possible elements of corruption, though I cannot disclose their names at this time," he said.
He said that the former chief operating officer (COO) of MBI is being remanded for a week, starting today over the MBI project but on another issue.
The former top official of the Selangor state advisory body was rearrested yesterday.
“On the latest development on the MBI case - six more premises were raided by MACC. Among the findings were RM600,000 cash in a residential premises in the Klang Valley yesterday, suspected to be for the politician,” he said.
On Sunday, MACC raided an apartment unit, said to be a politician's "safe house", and seized about RM5 million in foreign currency.
This raid follows the detention of two individuals, including a former senior executive of MBI, on Oct 10 in connection with a corruption case related to a sand mining concession. - October 17, 2024
