KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has rejected a report published by an international media outlet, describing it as containing baseless and malicious allegations aimed at tarnishing the commission’s name and reputation.

In a statement today, the MACC said it would not comment on claims that are defamatory, speculative, or involve matters that are sub judice or subject to ongoing legal proceedings.

“Any allegation or assumption that personal interests influence MACC investigations is categorically denied.

“All investigations conducted by the MACC are carried out firmly in accordance with the law, guided by evidence, and undertaken independently without fear or favour,” it said.

The statement was issued in response to a Bloomberg report alleging that the MACC, including several senior officers, colluded with businessmen in efforts to sideline competitors and forcibly take over companies.

The MACC said that any decision on prosecution falls under the prosecutorial discretion and judicial authority of the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the courts, in line with Malaysia’s legal framework based on the principle of separation of powers.

As an enforcement agency, the commission said its functions and roles are governed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and are subject to oversight by five independent monitoring bodies.

It stressed that allegations of misconduct cannot be tried through media narratives, but must instead be assessed through the established legal system and due process.

“The MACC reiterates that any individual or party with credible and legitimate evidence of corruption or misconduct is urged to channel such information through the appropriate avenues to enable evaluation and action in accordance with the law,” it said. – February 12, 2026
