Datuk Seri Najib Razak's monthly income of over RM78,000 during his tenure as Malaysia's prime minister and finance minister has come under scrutiny in the ongoing trial over the alleged misappropriation of over RM2.2 billion in 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigating officer, Senior Superintendent Nur Aida Arifin, provided this information while testifying as the 49th prosecution witness in the High Court.

Nur Aida detailed that Najib received wages amounting to RM58,605.15 in his capacity as prime minister and finance minister. Additionally, he received an allowance as a Member of Parliament and Dewan Rakyat leader, totaling RM19,846.59. Combining these earnings, Najib's total monthly income stood at RM78,451.74. His roles as prime minister and finance minister spanned from April 3, 2009, to the 2018 elections, with the finance minister position held from September 17, 2008, until 2018.

The MACC's investigation into the alleged misappropriation of 1MDB funds commenced in August 2015, with Nur Aida joining as an assistant investigating officer. She later assumed the role of investigating officer on May 14, 2018. Nur Aida testified that she personally filed a complaint on May 17, 2018, enabling investigations under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009. The complaint centered on information regarding Najib's alleged receipt of RM3.217 billion in 1MDB investment funds into his private AmBank account for personal interests.

Nur Aida continued her testimony, revealing that her investigations indicated Najib had committed an offense under Section 23. Over RM3.63 billion entered his two private bank accounts, with approximately RM2.282 billion being the focus of her inquiry. This revelation prompted objections from Najib's lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who argued that Nur Aida was making comments and conclusions, a prerogative reserved for the court. Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah recorded the objection for later consideration.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib defended Nur Aida's testimony, stating that it was based on findings from her investigations. He clarified that documents would be presented later in the trial to substantiate her testimony.

As the trial unfolds, it brings to light Najib's significant monthly income during his dual roles as prime minister and finance minister, adding context to the ongoing investigation into the alleged misappropriation of 1MDB funds.
