The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has apprehended a company director on suspicion of his involvement in the submission of fraudulent claims related to oil storage maintenance, pipe installation, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) services, totaling nearly RM1 million.
The individual, a man in his 50s, was detained around 7:30 PM yesterday while appearing for questioning at the MACC Headquarters. He has been remanded for four days, from today until Saturday (March 9), following the approval of the remand application by Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court.
Sources reveal that the suspect is allegedly linked to a false claim made in 2021 concerning maintenance work on oil storage and accommodation in Kota Belud, Sabah, amounting to over RM490,000. Additionally, he is suspected of making fraudulent claims exceeding RM470,000 for oil storage maintenance, pipe installation, and CCTV work in Lahad Datu, Sabah, where the purported services were not rendered.
Meanwhile, Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman, the senior director of MACC's Special Operations Division, confirmed the arrest and stated that the investigation is being conducted under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
In a separate incident in Johor Baru, three immigration officers and two civilians have been remanded for five days, commencing today, to aid investigations into allegations of soliciting and accepting bribes from foreigners seeking entry into Malaysia.
Earlier, the Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), in collaboration with the Integrity Unit of the Johor State Immigration Department, apprehended three immigration officers and two civilians suspected of soliciting and accepting bribes.
The suspects, comprising four men and one woman—who happens to be the wife of one of the detained immigration officers—are aged between 35 and 46. The three immigration officers, stationed at the Senai International Airport (LTAS), along with the two civilians, were apprehended between 5 and 11 PM yesterday at the Johor MACC Office and Larkin.
Reportedly, the integrity team of the Johor State Immigration Department conducted a compliance check at LTAS, examining the mobile phones of the officers on duty. During the inspection, several suspicious WhatsApp messages were discovered on the devices of the implicated officers.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias has confirmed the arrests, stating that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
