KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is expected to charge at least two individuals in court soon over alleged corruption involving certain state assemblymen in Sabah.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that several individuals have already been identified, with prosecution action set to follow shortly.

“At least one or two individuals will be charged in court in the near future,” he said during a press conference after officiating the 2nd Convocation Ceremony of the Certified Law Enforcement Programme 2025, organised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) today, as reported by Berita Harian.

The case is linked to a series of viral video clips purportedly featuring conversations involving bribery between unnamed individuals and several Sabah assemblymen, believed to be related to mining activities in the state.

Following the circulation of the clips, the MACC launched a comprehensive investigation, which included digital forensic analysis of the materials.

The commission later confirmed that a whistleblower connected to the video recordings—allegedly depicting discussions of corrupt practices among state lawmakers—met with MACC officials on October 30.

During the meeting, the whistleblower’s lawyer played a 17-second audio clip, which contained a discussion between several individuals involving a sum of money. – June 12, 2025
