PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will soon summon the four Bersatu MPs who have pledged their support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said this is to probe allegations that they were given bribes to support the unity government, Bernama reported.

While a police report was lodged against the four MPs on Monday, Azam said the cops referred the matter to MACC for further investigations since the report was more focused on elements of corruption.

“For now, we are waiting for a report (on the case from the police). An open investigation will be held soon,” he was quoted as saying.

The four Bersatu MPs who have stated their support for Anwar are Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim and Jeli MP Zahari Kechik.

They said the move was for the sake of their constituents, denying that they had been bribed or threatened into declaring support for the prime minister.

Suhaili and Iskandar Dzulkarnain have since been suspended by the party for six and four years, respectively.

Two of the MPs have also confirmed receiving allocations from Putrajaya after expressing their support for Anwar.
