MACC wraps up probe into Sabah assemblyman’s alleged corruption in viral video clip

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has completed its investigation into a viral video clip purportedly showing a Sabah state assemblyman involved in corrupt dealings related to mineral licensing.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the investigation paper was submitted to the prosecution two weeks ago and could soon lead to charges against several individuals.

“There is a possibility that prosecutions will be carried out against several individuals soon,” Bernama reported the source saying.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the development when contacted by Bernama, adding that additional prosecutions could follow.

“We have concluded investigations and referred the case to the prosecution. There might be further prosecutions against several other individuals,” he said.

The case centres on a series of video clips that recently went viral, allegedly capturing conversations between certain individuals and Sabah lawmakers concerning corruption and the issuance of mineral licences in the state.

The MACC previously confirmed it had launched an investigation into the videos, including conducting detailed digital forensic analysis of the footage and related evidence. - June 6, 2025
