Macklemore encourages Robert Kraft to match his $1 million donation to Palestine

  • In a follow-up address on Wednesday, after being dropped from Ed Sheeran’s tour, Macklemore encouraged Robert Kraft to match his $1 million donation to organizations supporting Palestinian people in an effort to “bring the conversation back to where it belongs.”
  • “This is what this has always been about. Not me. Not a tour. Not the headlines or the controversy. It is about Palestinians right to freedom, dignity and safety in their homeland,” the singer said.
  • Promoter Messina Touring Group removed Macklemore after venue owners, led by Kraft Group CEO Robert Kraft, threatened to cancel concert dates if the rapper performed.
  • Within 48 hours of the “Hind’s Hall” singer being dropped for his “Free Palestine” comments on stage, supporting acts Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe, and Sheeran’s touring band Beoga subsequently withdrew from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore and Palestine.
  • In a statement of his own on Tuesday, Sheeran maintained that the decision to remove Macklemore had come from Messina Touring Group, the promoter of the U.S. leg of Sheeran’s tour.
