MACMA President awarded Sabah state-level Tokoh Maulidur Rasul

SANDAKAN: President of the Malaysian Chinese Muslim Association (MACMA), Prof. Datuk Dr Taufiq Yap Yun Hin was awarded the Sabah State-level Tokoh Maulidur Rasul in the year 1442H/2022M.

The award was presented by the Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin who was accompanied by the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, the Minister of Special Duties, Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, the President of MUIS, Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin, the President of the Municipal Council Sandakan, Benedict Asmat and Jheains Director, Datuk Saifulzaman Sangul at the Community Hall.

Taufiq, 54, said the award gave him the strength to continue fighting for Islam, especially in the field of education for all Muslims.

The professor at the Faculty of Science of Universiti Putra Malaysia has contributed tremendously to Islamic education and development sector in Malaysia, including publishing a translation and interpretation of the Al Quran in Chinese through the collaboration of MACMA and the Restudan Foundation launched by the Sultan of Selangor.

In Sabah, a Chinese Muslim Sabah Cultural Centre will be built in Kota Kinabalu and land acquisition is being carried out to get approval from the state government. Maimunah receives the certificate from Tun Juhar, while Hajiji (third left) and Arifin (second right) look on.

Meanwhile, the Tokoh Maulidur Rasul Award (Women) was bestowed on the Deputy Chairman of the Sabah Education Department Women’s Association (PEWANIS), Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul, 62, who is also the former Sabah Education Director.

“In our efforts to dignify education in Sabah, regardless of Islamic education or education as a whole, we are carrying out the trust entrusted to us by the government at that time.

“This award is grand for me and as public servants, we need to work hard without thinking about whether our contribution is appreciated or not,” she said.
