French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday declared the G7 summit he hosted in the spa town of Évian a success, praising the gathering of leading democratic economic powers for demonstrating unity and cooperation despite global crises.

"Objectively, this G7 summit is a success. It was a moment of unity, high-quality discussions, and genuine cooperation among the leaders present," Macron said at the close of the three-day summit.

"This summit has indeed enabled us to coordinate very closely in order to respond to crises and work on the major challenges of our time," he added.

Macron noted that the group had unanimously adopted nine joint statements during the meeting.

The summit took place against a difficult backdrop marked by international crises and conflicts, Macron said, adding that recent months had been characterized by fragmentation, division and disagreement.

The Group of Seven (G7) comprises the United States, Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Canada and Japan.
