French President Emmanuel Macron has called for the swift and full implementation of the peace agreement between the United States and Iran, saying it should enable the immediate and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
France stands ready to support the reopening through the international naval mission it operates jointly with the United Kingdom, Macron said in a statement on social media platform X early on Monday.
"The resumption of maritime traffic, without restriction or toll, is an indispensable condition for regional stability and the global economy," he wrote.
The French president added that the agreement paves the way for broader negotiations aimed at promoting peace and security across the Middle East. Those talks should address concerns over Iran's nuclear and missile programmes, as well as what Macron described as Tehran's policy of regional destabilization.
A lasting peace settlement must also include the restoration of Lebanon's state sovereignty, Macron said, adding that a robust and durable ceasefire was essential to achieving that goal.
