THE MADANI government will further strengthen its legal and institutional reform agenda throughout 2026, with a renewed emphasis on building a national accountability framework that is more transparent, firm and orderly, according to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Law and Institutional Reform Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
She said the reform drive is anchored on three core principles, namely Transparency, Firmness and Orderliness, collectively referred to as 3T, aimed at ensuring Malaysia’s governance system functions more effectively and earns the confidence of the public.
Azalina said initial steps towards implementing the reform agenda have already begun through engagement sessions with a wide range of stakeholders, including civil society organisations and constitutional experts.
“These early engagements are important to ensure that every reform formulated is inclusive, takes into account diverse views and is centred on the interests of the people,” she said in a Facebook post yesterday.
Among those involved in the discussions were civil society groups such as Bersih and Projek SAMA, as well as constitutional experts and political analysts including Prof Datuk Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi, Prof Datuk Dr Shamrahayu Ab Aziz and Prof Wong Chin Huat.
Also present were the Director-General of the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) Datuk Zamri Misman, the Second Solicitor General Datuk Seri Umar Saifuddin, along with senior officers from BHEUU, the Prime Minister’s Department and the Attorney General’s Chambers.
Azalina stressed that the MADANI government’s reform agenda is not merely a set of policies on paper, but a continuous effort to build a governance system that is fair, grounded in integrity and worthy of public trust.
She added that the implementation of these reforms is crucial to safeguarding the well-being of the people and strengthening confidence in the country’s institutions. - January 13, 2026
