Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh clarifies that Madani Mart operates via a licensing model with entrepreneurs and receives no government funding, distinguishing it from past initiatives

JOHOR BAHRU: Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh has clarified the operational model of the newly launched Madani Mart. She stated it functions on a licensing basis in collaboration with entrepreneurs and does not utilise government funding.

Fuziah explained that Yayasan MADANI, as the brand owner, manages the ecosystem. This includes providing training, systems, and retail analysis supported by artificial intelligence.

The model offers entrepreneurs flexibility to run their businesses. They receive supply chain support from the foundation.

“Yayasan MADANI, which is aligned with the government, does not receive government funding and does not provide capital for MADANI Mart. Each outlet is privately owned,” she told a press conference after a walkabout at a supermarket here.

She was responding to queries about Madani Mart and claims it resembles the previous Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia initiative. The first outlet was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Indera Mahkota, Pahang.

The community retail concept offers daily necessities at affordable prices. It operates under the slogan “Kedai Runcit Harga Rahmah”.

Fuziah described Madani Mart as a strategic approach to addressing cost of living challenges. She emphasised it is a more comprehensive and targeted method that requires no government capital.

The initiative is driven through collaboration between her ministry, private operators, and Yayasan MADANI. She added that it provides opportunities for local communities and entrepreneurs to participate.
