KUALA LUMPUR: Tuaran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau (pic) expressed disappointment over what he described as the government’s lack of seriousness in implementing recommendations from the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on illegal immigrants in Sabah, noting that only 13 meetings had been held over more than a decade.
Madius raised the matter in a statement on Thursday following a written reply to his parliamentary question submitted to the Home Ministry during the Dewan Rakyat sitting.
He had sought clarification on the contribution of the RCI since its report was submitted to the government in 2014 in addressing the negative impact of the alleged Project IC in Sabah.
According to the ministry’s reply, the RCI on illegal immigrants in Sabah was established in 2012 and its report was submitted in 2014, leading to the formation of the Sabah State Foreigners Management Committee (JKPWAS) on Dec 3, 2014, which has convened 13 meetings since then.
Madius said the figure reflected a lack of seriousness in addressing the issue and urged the Federal Government to demonstrate clearer political commitment and set a specific timeline to implement the RCI’s key recommendations to restore public confidence in resolving the matter.
