KOTA KINABALU: Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau (pic) has suggested that the Election Commission set Monday as polling day for the upcoming 17th State Election.

He said the proposal was made to ensure harmony between religious practices, convenience for voters working away from home, and alignment with the values of the National Education Philosophy.

Madius, who is also the Honorary President of Upko, said the philosophy calls for a balanced and holistic development of individuals based on faith and respect for God, which should be reflected in government policies and actions.

He added that Monday would be most practical, as voters could return home over the weekend to worship with their families before casting their votes, saving on travel costs and leave days.

Madius also urged the government to declare a special public holiday, as done during GE14 in 2018, to enable all Malaysians to exercise their civic duty.
