KOTA KINABALU: Tuaran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau has called on all Sabah elected representatives to contribute RM5,000 each to Sabah Action Body Advocating Rights (Sabar) to support legal costs in pursuing the State’s continental shelf rights.

He said the people-led NGO requires RM500,000 by April 30 to continue its legal challenge at the Federal Court.

He said the legal action aims to reclaim Sabah’s ownership over the seabed, continental shelf and the natural resources contained within it, which had been legally established since 1954 under The North Borneo (Alteration of Boundaries) Order in Council before the formation of Malaysia but later constrained following the implementation of the Territorial Sea Act 2012 by the Federal Government.

Madius said in a Facebook post that Sabah has 111 representatives, comprising 25 Members of Parliament, 73 assemblymen, seven Senators, and six appointed assemblymen, and that contributions of RM5,000 each would raise RM555,000, exceeding the target and reflecting solidarity.

He also noted that the Kudat and Ranau Members of Parliament had already contributed RM5,000 each, adding that Sabar had obtained locus standi to proceed with the case and that public donations are open via a registered trustee account and DuitNow QR.
