
MANILA, Philippines—A magnitude 5.4 earthquake shook the province of Cebu on Monday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The tremor happened at 3:22 p.m. some 17 kilometers (kms) southeast of Bogo City. It had a depth of 10 kilometers.
Initial reports showed that Instrumental Intensity 4 was recorded in San Francisco, Cebu; and Hilongos and Villaba, Leyte while Intensity 3 was felt in Liloan, Talisay, Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu; Isabel, Baybay, Carigara, Ormoc City, and Abuyog, Leyte; Esperanza, Masbate; and Hinundayan, Southern Leyte.
The agency said Instrumental Intensity 2 was recorded in Kawayan, and Naval, Biliran; Roxas City, Capiz; Carcar, San Fernando, Argao, and Asturias, Cebu; Iloilo City; Dulag, Alangalang, and Palo, Leyte; La Carlota City, Negros Occidental; Silago, and Sogod, Southern Leyte.
Phivolcs said damage to infrastructure and aftershocks are possible.
