Deputy Commissioner Gandharva Rathore on Friday described Maharana Pratap Singh as an enduring icon of courage, unwavering patriotism and self-respect while addressing a gathering at a function organised by the Rajput Kalyan Sabha to mark his 486th birth anniversary.

She said Maharana Pratap was renowned for refusing to submit to the Mughal Empire under Akbar. His legacy, she added, lay in choosing exile and guerrilla warfare rather than surrendering the sovereignty of his kingdom, inspiring generations with the principles of freedom, resilience and honour.

Born on May 9, 1540, Maharana Pratap Singh was the 13th Rajput king of Mewar in Kumbhalgarh, Rajasthan. Rathore said he was celebrated for his unparalleled bravery and the famous Battle of Haldighati, symbolising sacrifice and unwavering courage.

She said Maharana Pratap remained a symbol of bravery and that stories of his valour continued to inspire people in modern times. Rathore also assured every possible support to the Rajput Kalyan Sabha.

Earlier, the DC honoured people from various organisations for their social service, including Bhagwan Dass Shastri, president of the Senior Citizen Council; Nena Chauhan, president of the Inner Wheel Club; members of the media; and women help groups.
