MAHARLIKA Clean Power Holdings Corp. said Wednesday that it had started the construction of 24 new microgrids in Palawan, Cebu, and Quezon through units Archipelago Renewables Corp. (ARC) and ARC II in partnership with WEnergy Global and CleanGrid Partners.

With a capital investment of P2.1 billion, the microgrids are expected benefit 11,560 households and local enterprises in the three provinces.

Maharlika said it would initially deploy solar photovoltaic systems with a seven megawatt-peak (MWp) capacity, battery energy storage systems of eight MWh megawatt-hours (MWh), 3.5 MW of efficient diesel capacity for back-up power and a SMART power distribution network totaling 225 kilometers.

The projects are scheduled to be completed by the last quarter of this year.
