Former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has unleashed one of his harshest criticisms yet against Israel, describing its ongoing military campaign and blockade in Gaza as acts “beyond human comprehension” that amount to genocide.
In a strongly worded blogpost, the veteran statesman accused Israel of systematically exterminating Palestinians through both bombings and starvation, actions he claimed strip away any notion of humanity. He argued that the sheer scale of destruction in Gaza—where thousands of men, women and children have been killed or left buried under rubble—reveals a deliberate attempt to annihilate an entire people.
According to Mahathir, the situation has entered an even darker phase as reports emerge of severe food shortages across the enclave. He highlighted disturbing images of children and infants reduced to skeletal forms as a result of prolonged starvation. The former premier suggested that this slow, visible death is being deliberately prolonged, with Israel fully aware that its victims are languishing before they die.
Mahathir further pointed to the irony of Israel’s actions, noting that Jews themselves had historically endured starvation and persecution. He said such suffering should have made the state of Israel more empathetic toward others, but instead, it is inflicting similar horrors on those who once offered them refuge.
“There is not even a shred of gratitude,” he wrote, characterising Israel’s leaders as “devils incarnate” who have shown no pity and no humanity in their actions against innocent civilians. He accused Israel of disregarding global outrage, stating that the condemnation of billions around the world has failed to move its leadership.
The former prime minister, known for his longstanding and outspoken stance on Palestinian rights, also suggested that history will eventually record these events as evidence of unparalleled cruelty. He emphasised that the international community is not dealing with mere acts of war but with a calculated policy of extermination.
Mahathir’s remarks come as humanitarian agencies warn that the situation in Gaza has reached catastrophic levels. The blockade has severely restricted food, water, and medicine, leaving aid organisations unable to meet the overwhelming needs of the population. International leaders and rights groups have repeatedly urged Israel to end collective punishment and allow full humanitarian access, but the crisis shows no sign of abating.
The Malaysian leader’s fiery condemnation reflects growing anger in Muslim-majority nations and beyond, where outrage against the Gaza offensive has fueled mass protests and mounting calls for accountability.
