The Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad conversation was captured this morning at Yayasan Al Bukhary, according to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
According to Astro Awani, the measure was conducted in response to a previous prime minister's comment that was derogatory to royal institutions and the Proclamation of the Malays, and that was uploaded.
The communication between Dr Mahathir and the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT), D5 Bukit Aman, was taped at 10.30 am today, said PDRM Secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin.
PDRM Secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin explained that the recording was created in accordance with Criminal Procedure Code Section 112.
"An investigation is being conducted into Tun Mahathir's statement, which is insulting to royal institutions and the Proclamation of the Malays. The case is still under investigation," he said.
According to Berita Harian, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad denied that he was trying to question and insult the royal institution; instead, he only told stories about royal stories that happened once upon a time.
According to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the king's institution was not being questioned or denigrated; he was merely sharing anecdotes about past royal events.
The former prime minister asserted that he had a right to speak on publicly known facts.
"There are two cases (the Malay declaration and the issue of disrespect for royal institutions)... I've already mentioned the Malay kings, mentioning how the organization lacks funds despite tax collection.
"Everyone knows I can relate to what happened, so why can't I discuss it? Everyone knows about the RM4 billion land auction, and I spoke with the party who purchased the land. At a news conference following the Malay Proclamation Round Table Meeting, he stated that the land would stay his until death.
The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) already said that the case against Dr Mahathir, who was found guilty of insulting the royal institution, was closed.
