Kota Kinabalu: The decision in the case of a contractor and his now ex-wife, charged with the murder of their maid four years ago, has been rescheduled for April 30.
Defence counsel Datuk Ram Singh, representing Mohammad Ambree Yunos @ Unos informed the media that the court had fixed the new date for the decision.
The decision was initially set to be delivered on Friday, following the conclusion of the defence stage.
The trial commenced on June 24, 2024, with 17 witnesses, including two from the defence, called to testify.
Ambree, 43, and Etiqah Siti Noorashikeen Mohd Sulong, 36, are accused of murdering one Nur Afiyah Daeng Damin, 28, between Dec 8 and 11, 2021, at a unit in Amber Tower, Lido Avenue Condominium, Penampang.
They were jointly charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with 34 of the same Code, which carries the death penalty or a prison term of no less than 30 years and not more than 40 years, along with no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane, on conviction.
The duo pleaded not guilty to the charge on Nov 17, 2022.
On Oct 2, 2024, the court ordered them to enter their defence after ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against them.
Ambree and Etiqah, each being the sole witness in their respective defence, gave evidence under oath on Oct 21 and Dec 2, last year.
Etiqah was represented by counsel Datuk Seri Rakhbir Singh.
Both accused remain on court bail.
