Kota Kinabalu: The High Court here has set April 11 for the decision on a contractor and his now former wife in the murder of their maid four years ago.

Judge Datuk Dr Lim Hock Leng fixed the date following the clarification of submissions by both the defence and prosecution at the conclusion of the defence case.

The trial commenced on June 24, 2024, with 17 witnesses, including two from the defence, being called to testify.

Mohammad Ambree Yunos @ Unos, 43, and Etiqah Siti Noorashikeen Mohd Sulong, 36, are accused of murdering Nur Afiyah Daeng Damin, 28, between Dec 8 and 11, 2021, at a unit in Amber Tower, Lido Avenue Condominium, Penampang.

They were jointly charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with 34 of the same Code, which carries the death penalty or a prison term of no less than 30 years’ jail and not more than 40 years’ jail, along with no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane, on conviction.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charge on Nov 17, 2022.

On Oct 2, 2024, the court ordered them to enter their defence after ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against them.

Ambree and Etiqah, each the sole witness in their respective defence, gave evidence under oath on Oct 21 and Dec 2 last year.

Ambree is defended by counsel Datuk Ram Singh and Prem Elmer while counsel Datuk Seri Rakhbir Singh defended Etiqah.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Dacia Jane Romanus prosecuted.

Both accused remain on court bail.
