KOTA MARUDU: Gagasan Rakyat Bandau Division Chief Datuk Maijol Mahap shocked party members by announcing he will contest as an independent candidate after being dropped by GRS from the running.

He appeared at the Nomination Centre for N.5 Matunggong, N.6 Bandau and N.7 Tandek at SMK Bengkongan around 8.34am.

Tension erupted at the GRS Bandau operations room on Friday evening when Maijol declared he would run as an independent, directly challenging Gagasan Rakyat's Women’s Chief Datuk Redonah Bahanda, the official GRS candidate among 11 contenders.

Banners and posters at the GRS office that had displayed only Maijol, the GRS president and several leaders, but excluded Redonah, were taken down immediately.
