Mainz are interested in Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg.
The Dutch youngster spent last season on-loan with Schalke and has expressed interest in a return next term.
However, BILD says Mainz have now come forward and could tempt Van den Berg
Mainz have qualified for the Champions League for the first time and are in contact with the player's camp.
Van den Berg said last month: "There have already been initial talks with those responsible about remaining at Schalke. But we have to wait.
"Only then [after the U21 European Championships] will it be decided where I will play in the coming season. It was similar in the past three years."
