THE Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) has issued a stern warning to Muslims against taking part in, promoting, or supporting programmes and activities associated with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, describing such involvement as contrary to Islamic teachings, Malaysian law, and societal norms.
Its chairman, Senator Datuk Salehuddin Saidin (pic), emphasised that MAIS views media reports on events linked to the LGBT community and the promotion of deviant lifestyles with grave concern.
“As the body responsible for safeguarding the sanctity of Islam in Selangor, MAIS strongly opposes any activities by any party aimed at promoting, supporting, or normalising deviant lifestyles such as LGBT,” he said.
Salehuddin also urged the Muslim community to adhere firmly to Islamic teachings and not be swayed by agendas promoting LGBT lifestyles, which he said could undermine moral values and the character of the community.
He encouraged those already involved in deviant lifestyles to return to their natural disposition by participating in rehabilitation programmes offered by MAIS, other religious authorities, or relevant non-governmental organisations.
He added that MAIS is committed to collaborating with government agencies to prevent programmes and activities that propagate deviant lifestyles from gaining traction.
“We will work together with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) and other agencies to strengthen moral education, disseminate Islamic teachings and values, and enhance rehabilitation programmes to ensure such deviant practices are not perpetuated in the state,” he said.
The warning follows widespread objections to the upcoming ‘Glamping With Pride’ programme in Hulu Langat.
Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi stated that the state government had urged authorities to investigate the event and would not compromise with attempts to spread LGBT culture.
Media reports indicated that the organisers planned to proceed despite objections from various groups.
Meanwhile, PAS Central Ulama Council chairman Datuk Ahmad Yahaya described the growing public organisation of events promoting LGBT ideologies as a worrying trend.
“Are we merely going to turn a blind eye as these groups corrupt public thought and normalise deviant culture in the country? Malaysia remains firm in rejecting the LGBT ideology and should not allow such influences to take root,” he said.
Ahmad, who is also the Member of Parliament for Pokok Sena, called for a comprehensive action plan to ensure that the nation and its citizens remain protected from the dissemination of LGBT ideology.
He also highlighted concerns raised by PAS over policies and practices, including the distribution of HIV-prevention drugs like PrEP, which he claimed have contributed to the spread of deviant ideologies.
