On September 14 in Putrajaya, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, and Her Majesty the Queen, Raja Zarith Sofiah, attended the prestigious Trooping of the Colours ceremony at Dataran Pahlawan Negara. This significant event was held as part of the celebrations for the King's official birthday.
Their Majesties arrived at 8.30 am to the sounds of the national anthem, Negaraku, signaling the start of the ceremony. Upon their arrival, the sky above was graced with a fly-past formation of five helicopters from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), led by Major Mohd Fazruzaman Md Faril of the 10th Squadron, Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). The helicopters proudly displayed the Jalur Gemilang, Malaysia's national flag, along with the flags representing the ATM, Malaysian Army, Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), and the RMAF. Following this aerial display, a 21-gun salute was carried out by the 41st Battery of the Royal Artillery Regiment (Ceremonial), under the leadership of Major Hafizan Mat Ghani, marking the grand occasion.
As part of the ceremony, Sultan Ibrahim conducted an inspection of the military parade. The parade was composed of 25 officers and 503 personnel from all three branches of the ATM, led by Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Firdaus Sa’ad, Commanding Officer of the 21st Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment. Under clear skies with temperatures around 26°C, the hour long parade took place, featuring an impressive combined performance by the ATM Central Band, directed by Lieutenant Colonel Muhamad Nor Azizan Yahya. The band performed patriotic songs, enhancing the atmosphere of the ceremonial occasion.
One of the key highlights of the event was the ceremonial march of the five Colours of the King. The Colours, which symbolize a great national honour, are granted by the King to regiments or corps of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The Colours paraded during the ceremony were from the Royal Malay Regiment, Royal Ranger Regiment, Royal Armoured Corps, RMN, and RMAF. This march was performed with full military honours, underscoring the significance of the moment.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the parade participants gave three resounding shouts of Daulat Tuanku to honour the King. A prayer was also led by the director-general of the Armed Forces Religious Corps, Major General Datuk Mohd Rashidi Bujai. The event closed with another fly-past salute from the five ATM helicopters before Their Majesties departed at 9.25 am.
Dignitaries present at the event included Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, and Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman.
This Trooping of the Colours ceremony is a rare occurrence, held only three times during the five-year reign of a Malay ruler appointed as the King during the first, third, and final years of their reign. This particular event marks the conclusion of six official ceremonies that began on June 2 in celebration of the King's official birthday on June 3.
