A major breakthrough occurred in the fight against drug trafficking in Hulu Selangor as authorities dismantled a syndicate and apprehended four individuals last Thursday. The operation, conducted in Bukit Beruntung and Bukit Sentosa, resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of cannabis weighing 15.28 kilograms.
Led by Hulu Selangor district police chief, Supt Ahmad Faizal Tahrim, the successful raid uncovered cannabis cleverly disguised and packaged resembling pieces of lemang, a traditional Malaysian food. The estimated street value of the confiscated drugs is approximately RM43,710, highlighting the significant blow dealt to the illicit drug trade.
The first arrest was made when authorities intercepted a 36-year-old man inside a parked Proton Persona car at an apartment in Bukit Beruntung. Subsequently, a staggering 14 kg of cannabis was confiscated from the vehicle, leading to the apprehension of three other individuals, including a foreign national aged between 23 and 61. This multi-tiered operation also yielded the discovery of three grams of cannabis on one of the suspects near a restaurant in Bukit Sentosa.
Further investigation led the authorities to a storeroom within an apartment in Bukit Beruntung, where they seized a compressed block weighing 1.28 kg, along with an air pistol and cartridge. Additionally, various assets including cash, a car, a four-wheel drive vehicle, and a motorcycle were impounded during the raid.
Urine screenings conducted on the suspects revealed one individual testing positive for drug use. As a result, all four suspects have been remanded for seven days until February 15 to facilitate ongoing investigations. Charges are being pursued under Section 39B, Sections 6, and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The successful operation signifies a significant victory in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region. Authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to curb illicit drug activities and safeguard communities from the harmful effects of narcotics.
