Major fire at the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited station in Doraha on Tuesday evening.

A major fire broke out at the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) office in Doraha this evening, damaging several transformers kept in the TRY area of the premises.

Onlookers affirm that initially the trees outside the PSPCL premises were on fire. “In no time due to the east wind the fire spread in the PSPCL station and set the transformers, filled with oil ablaze,” shared Sukhminder Singh of Buani village, who was passing by when the flames were beyond control.

Panic spread among the residents since the fury of the fire gave goosebumps to onlookers and employees inside the station. The owner of a car parked near the place lost his car key in panic. Acting on the spur of the moment, five to six persons, lifted the vehicle and brought it out safely.

Fire brigade teams from Doraha, Samrala and Ludhiana were called to the spot. It took several hours to douse the flames due to the oil in the transformers. No loss of life was reported. The extent of damage to the transformers is being assessed.

XEN, PSPCL, Doraha, Daljit Singh said that the transformers had piled up in the yard due to non-lifting by the assigned person for the past sometime. Resultantly, their number was big and the fire reached these in no time due to the oil stored inside these.
