Major UK train operator cancels most services until further notice

  • CrossCountry has cancelled most of its Sunday train services across the UK following a major power cut at its control centre in Birmingham.
  • The electrical failure rendered critical management systems unavailable, forcing the suspension of journeys across almost all major routes until further notice.
  • Limited services continue to run between Peterborough, Cambridge and Stansted Airport, alongside planned rail replacement buses between Leicester and Peterborough.
  • Sunday tickets are being accepted by alternative operators including Chiltern Railways and LNER, and remain valid on CrossCountry services until Wednesday.
  • Affected passengers delayed by 30 minutes or more are eligible for Delay Repay compensation, while those who decide not to travel can claim a refund.
