With less than a week to go before the Sabah state election, political campaigns are in full swing, and the Deputy Prime Minister has made his intentions clear: he wants to win Sabah.
“Make Sabah blue again with Barisan Nasional’s victory,” Ahmad Zahid Hamidi declared while speaking to the media in Kota Kinabalu yesterday (22 November).
Zahid said that throughout the campaign period, UMNO and BN in Sabah have faced threats, including defamation, as well as physical and spiritual attacks. However, he stressed that the parties will not back down.
Sabah thrived under BN rule
While acknowledging the challenges of winning the entire state, Zahid expressed his desire to see Sabah “blue” again, citing historical evidence that the state experienced significant development under BN’s administration.
The Sabah state election is scheduled for 29 November.
BN will only announce its chief minister candidate after securing substantial wins, following the party’s internal hierarchy. Zahid added that BN and its coalition partner Pakatan Harapan (PH) have agreed to cooperate across all contested seats, with the top post to be decided through a syura process once results are confirmed.
Zahid emphasised Sabah’s long-standing ties with BN, claiming the coalition had brought the state to “great heights” in the past and could do so again if given the mandate, as reported by Malaysian Gazette.
In the upcoming poll, Sabah BN is contesting 45 seats, while PH is contesting 22.
