Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are the 17 collections of global goals that were set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. This SDG covers all of the outcomes that will raise the development of social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
Malaysia and SDGs
Malaysia is taking seriously the importance of implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) at the local level towards achieving the Sustainable Development Agenda by 2030 (Agenda 2030).
Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department), insisted that Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand, need to work together and increase commitment to implementing that goal.
“This effort is important when the world is trying to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.” He said this while giving a speech in a side program in conjunction with the United Nations (UN) High-Level Political Forum on the SDGs titled 'Building Back Better in Localising SDGs: A Case Study of Malaysia and Three Southeast Asian Country Experiences of the Partnership Model' at Main UN Office in New York, 11 July 2022.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah (Foreign Minister), in the closing speech of the program emphasized the importance of the role and cooperation of stakeholders including government bodies, the private sector, and civil society in dealing with issues related to sustainable development.
"This includes issues of poverty and inequality, climate change, as well as gender, ethnic or class discrimination through a clear inclusive agenda, especially in approaching vulnerable groups in efforts to implement the SDGs at the local level," he said. The UN High-Level Political Forum on the SDGs is the main UN platform that plays an important role in the follow-up, review, and evaluation of the agenda at the global level.
The virtual side program organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Economic Planning Unit in collaboration with The All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia Sustainable Development Goal (APPGMSDG) was attended by Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand because it gave each country the opportunity to share the achievements of their countries' best practice challenges in implementing the SDGs as well as efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda.
