SABAH will continue to sustain its momentum in positioning itself as an attractive destination for investors, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He said the Government has leveraged numerous opportunities in various sectors throughout Sabah to ensure the State remains consistent in attracting investments.
He said just within two years under the helm of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah - Barisan Nasional (GRS-BN) Government from Sept 2020 to Sept 2022, a total of 46 companies have invested in Sabah’s manufacturing sectors, thus creating some 5,000 jobs.
“During this period, the total foreign investment amounted to RM11.9 billion, while local investments amounted to RM942 million.
“Sabah will push this momentum and we are confident that Sabah is and will continue to be an attractive destination for investments,” he said at the Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (KCCI) 10th Installation Night and 25th Anniversary at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru in Kota Kinabalu on Oct 22. His speech was read by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir.
The Chief Minister also urged KCCI and other chambers of commerce to take advantage of the opportunities to progress, on top of assisting the Government to bring more development to Sabah. Hajiji said the Government offers the Bumiputera group meaningful opportunities to respond to the Government’s call in terms of participation in the economic transformation process, especially from agriculture towards industrialisation.
“It is up to the wisdom and capacity of KCCI members to adapt the process of shifting to a new form of economy based on innovation, creativity and high added value. Take the opportunity to collaborate with an external company that adopts up-to-date skills and expertise,” he added.
Hajiji said in an effort to achieve a high-income economy, the Government has provided numerous provisions to train and polish the workforce so that they can have the qualifications and training appropriate to the country’s needs.
He also called on KCCI members to strengthen their fighting and entrepreneurial spirit as well as cooperation especially in facing challenges when establishing a Bumiputera commercial and industrial community in Sabah.
He reiterated that the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan is the Government’s noble effort in bringing comprehensive and rapid development to the State.
“My mission and aspiration are to see a progressive Sabah. The Government will never stop at bringing more development to Sabah for the wellbeing of the people,” he said.
