MALACCA: A contra-flow lane will be opened in Jalan Banda Kaba starting from Little India towards the intersection of Jalan Chan Koon Cheng as an alternative access to Banda Hilir soon.

Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh (pix) said it is a traffic dispersal initiative in conjunction with the Vehicle Free Zone programme to overcome traffic congestion heading into Banda Hilir on weekends.

He said the proposed contra-flow lane is being fine-tuned by the Melaka Historic City Council and the Public Works Department before the implementation of the trial period. This is also in preparation for the Visit Malacca Year 2024.

“Last night, I did an inspection around Banda Hilir with the agencies and departments to see the roads involved.

“This contra-flow lane is not only aimed at reducing traffic congestion but will provide convenience to tourists to enter Banda Hilir from the direction of Jalan Banda Kaba to the intersection of Hotel Equatorial (Jalan Tan Koon Cheng),“ he told reporters after opening the state-level National Consultative Youth Council meeting here today.

Ab Rauf said it will also help traders and hotel operators around the route to increase their income. -Bernama
