Malampaya Phase 4 progressing – Prime Energy

PRIME Energy on Tuesday said the Malampaya Phase 4 (MP4) project was progressing with subsea pipelaying and offshore construction activities underway off Palawan.

This follows the successful completion of drilling under the government’s extension of Service Contract 38, which delivered two confirmed new gas resources to support the Philippines’ energy security.

The new gas resources are the Malampaya East-1 well and the Camago-3 well.

Prime Energy said subsea pipeline works had made substantial progress with the installation of the Malampaya East and Camago flowlines that would connect the newly drilled wells to the existing Malampaya production system.

Prime Energy said that the offshore construction vessel Fortitude had successfully installed key subsea infrastructure, including flowline end terminations, foundations, protective mattresses and other auxiliary equipment.

“Recent milestones from drilling to subsea installation reflect the steady advancement of Malampaya Phase 4 toward full system integration. As offshore works progress, these developments will help ensure that newly discovered indigenous gas resources can be safely brought into the existing infrastructure,” the company said.

Umbilicals — essential for power supply, communications and hydraulic control of the new wells — will be installed in the coming months.

The next major stage is commissioning and hook-up, which will involve flowline pressure testing, nitrogen drying and the installation of subsea jumpers.

Prime Energy underscored that MP4 remained on track and on schedule to deliver its first gas by the fourth quarter.

The project is expected to extend the productive life of the Malampaya field by an estimated six years.

Prime Energy is the natural gas exploration and development company of Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc., the infrastructure arm of Filipino businessman Enrique Razon.

It holds a 40-percent participating interest in and operates Service Contract 38, or the Malampaya deep water gas-to-power project.
