KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 — A Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah was diverted to Chennai, India on Monday after a suspected problem with one of its engines, according to Indian media reports.
According to national news agency Bernama, citing a report by the Times of India, flight MH156, carrying 186 passengers, made an emergency landing at Chennai Airport before the aircraft was moved to a parking bay, while passengers were provided accommodation at the airport.
“There was a technical problem involving engine number two.
“The airline and the relevant technical teams are conducting further assessment of the aircraft and the issue,” an airport spokesperson told news agency PTI.
The Hindu, citing Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials, reported that the flight departed Kuala Lumpur at 3.30pm before the pilot suspected an engine malfunction and requested permission to land in Chennai.
