Malaysia remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for the end of violence against Palestinians and maintaining a ceasefire in Gaza, according to Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. He stressed that Malaysia will continue to raise its voice on international platforms to halt the brutal killings and push for lasting peace.
Mohamad expressed hope for the swift establishment of an independent Palestinian state, allowing the Palestinian people to return to their homeland based on pre-1967 borders. He emphasized that this aspiration is shared by the global community as a resolution to the Gaza conflict. His remarks came during the launch of the Humanitarian Initiative for Palestine.
The upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September will be a critical venue for Malaysia to condemn the actions of the Zionist regime against innocent Palestinians. Malaysia urges the enforcement of United Nations Security Council resolutions, the interim ruling by the International Court of Justice, and the acceptance of the United States' three-phase ceasefire proposal. While there are reports of Hamas agreeing to the proposal, Israel has yet to comply, prolonging the conflict.
Mohamad reiterated that Malaysia's government will continue to advocate for Palestinian rights at every opportunity. He noted that the destruction of the Rafah crossing leaves the Allenby/King Hussein Bridge as the sole route for humanitarian aid to Gaza, recommending that aid be routed through Jordan due to its diplomatic ties with Israel.
Highlighting the Humanitarian Initiative for Palestine, Mohamad detailed the collaborative efforts of the government, local NGOs, and private companies in supporting Palestinians, especially those in Gaza facing severe shortages. Initiatives include partnerships with Touch ‘n Go for e-wallet donations and Yayasan Budi Ihsan Malaysia's program to provide food packs and sacrificial meat.
The Palestinian Humanitarian Trust Fund (AAKRP) has amassed RM98.8 million as of July 3, with RM35 million directed to international organizations like UNRWA and OCHA. Additional funds support scholarships for Palestinian students, livelihood projects by local NGOs, the Red Crescent Society, and maintenance of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Approximately RM9 million will aid cancer treatment, clean water supply, sanitation upgrades, and medical equipment in Gaza. Future allocations will focus on Gaza's reconstruction post-conflict.
Established in 2002, the AAKRP is managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, coordinating Malaysia’s humanitarian contributions to Palestine.
