The signing of 11 MoUs with India, including in semiconductors and TVET, marks a major upgrade in bilateral relations and underscores Malaysia’s strategic global role.
KUALA LUMPUR: The signing of 11 memoranda of understanding and cooperation documents with India has been hailed as a testament to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the milestone opens a fresh chapter in economic and political ties between the two nations.
He stated the achievement bolsters global investor confidence and reinforces Malaysia’s standing as a cornerstone of ASEAN.
Bilateral trade between Malaysia and India soared to RM79.49 billion in 2025.
This positions Malaysia as India’s third-largest trading partner within the regional bloc.
Ramanan attributed this growth to economic reforms, political stability, and consistent government policies designed to attract investment.
The collaboration was solidified during the official visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Both leaders witnessed the exchange of documents, signalling India’s political and economic trust in Malaysia’s stability.
A key highlight of the partnership is strategic cooperation in the semiconductor sector.
Ramanan emphasised this agreement is a “clear signal” that Malaysia remains a trusted and competitive link in the global high-tech value chain.
The cooperation extends into human development with new agreements in Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
Further deals in healthcare, disaster management, and social security are also part of the new pacts.
These include a specific agreement between Malaysia’s PERKESO and India’s Employees’ State Insurance Corporation.
The agreements are expected to create high-quality jobs and strengthen the national workforce.
Ramanan, as the minister-in-attendance, concluded the strengthened Comprehensive Strategic Partnership silences doubts about the government’s economic management.
“Today, Malaysia is no longer seen as just a trading partner, but a strategic ally that is both trusted and relied upon,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi departed for home today, concluding his two-day official visit.
