Kota Kinabalu: The Council of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah recently convened and, with a majority vote, officially appointed Council Member Neilson Chang as Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for the East Coast Liaison Office. He will oversee the establishment of the liaison office covering the Sandakan and Tawau regions.

This appointment marks an important milestone in the Chamber’s expansion into Sabah’s East Coast. The new liaison office is intended to serve as a direct access point for local businesses and members, while also providing potential investors and the wider business community with a convenient gateway to engage with the Chamber and explore opportunities for collaboration.

The Preparatory Committee’s immediate goal is to complete the establishment of the Liaison Office by March 2026, with an initial target of recruiting 30 members, before expanding to at least 50 members in the short term.

On the membership structure, MCCC Sabah President Datuk Dexter Lau said, “Given the overwhelming response, the Chamber will be doubling its membership fees in the near future.

Even so, MCCC Sabah remains an exceptionally valuable platform for business leaders and entrepreneurs, offering meaningful resources, connections, and growth opportunities.”

As a transitional measure, and at the discretion of Neilson Chang, businesses and communities in Sandakan, Tawau, and the wider East Coast region will be allowed to join under the current membership fee until March 2026, or for the first 30 new members, whichever comes first.

This incentive is designed to encourage early participation and allow more local enterprises to benefit from the Chamber’s extensive network.

The Chamber is confident that under Neilson Chang’s leadership, the East Coast Liaison Office will evolve into a vital bridge linking Sabah’s East and West coasts—enhancing services for members while contributing to the state’s economic growth and regional cooperation.
