Kota Kinabalu: Malaysia-China Friendship Association Sabah (MCFAS) has pledged to continue working hard to ensure the bilateral ties between the two countries, and especially involving Sabah, will continue to grow stronger.
As such, its President Dr Oh Ei Sun expected greater roles to be played by MCFAS especially after the reopening of China’s borders on January 8, three years after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He made the remark after attending the Chinese New Year reception hosted by the Embassy of China in Malaysia, along with MCFAS executive vice president cum Secretary-general Steven Liaw, in Kuala Lumpur recently.
For the record, Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir was reported to have said that Malaysia looked forward to working closely with China in strengthening and consolidating further the bilateral relations.
He said the country too looked forward to a more constructive engagement in promoting and enhancing people-to-people contact for the benefit of both nations and people.
Dr Oh echoed Dr Zambry’s remarks who is also his old friend and Dr Oh pledged the best from MCFAS to play a significant bridging role to achieve such aspiration.
“I hope the reopening of China borders will encourage and promote more beneficial and constructive exchanges between the countries.
“On MCFAS’ part, we will try our utmost best to enhance and complement the efforts of the Malaysia and China governments in many areas for the benefit of both countries and its people,” he said.
Meanwhile, on behalf of MCFAS, Dr Oh took the opportunity to wish all Malaysians a Happy Chinese New Year.
“MCFAS wish everyone to have a prosperous, good health and much success in 2023,” he said.
