KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 — Malaysia is focused on advancing sustainable development in the region, especially as it prepares to assume the Asean chairmanship next year, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

He highlighted Petronas’ key role as a catalyst to accelerate the country’s transition to net zero and Malaysia remains committed to supporting the national oil and gas company in forging strategic partnerships worldwide.

“I believe that all Malaysians are proud of Petronas’ achievements which continue to be one of the main topics in bilateral discussions between me and world leaders,” Anwar said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) today.

Since its establishment, Petronas has fulfilled its mandate in balancing business interests and contribution to national development through the trust and close support of stakeholders and business partners from all over the world, said the prime minister.

“The highest appreciation goes to the leadership and staff of Petronas who are not only the backbone of Malaysia’s economic strength, but also the nation’s pride for having maintained the principles of good governance and order throughout the company’s 50 years of glorious history,” he said.
