Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on June 7 that the government will implement the Building Information Modelling (BIM) system for projects undertaken by both the public and private sectors. BIM is a comprehensive process of creating and managing information for a built asset. It utilizes an intelligent three-dimensional model and a cloud platform to integrate structured, multi-disciplinary data, producing a digital representation of the asset throughout its lifecycle, from planning and design to construction and operations.
Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, revealed that this decision was made during the National Development Action Council (MTPN) meeting he chaired. He emphasized that several issues related to project delays were discussed during the meeting, highlighting the need to address these shortcomings through the adoption of new technologies in project workflows.
"This year, I hope the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the government’s development projects and programs will progress smoothly according to the planned schedule," Anwar stated. He expressed his satisfaction with the significant progress made in poverty reduction, noting a drastic decrease in poverty rates.
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of all ministries, agencies, and stakeholders working together in a coordinated and integrated manner. "It is crucial to ensure that the achievement and results of the planned projects and the country’s development contribute to the growth of the nation’s economy and the wellbeing of the people," he said in his Facebook post.
Anwar's announcement marks a significant step towards modernizing project management in Malaysia. By adopting BIM, the government aims to enhance efficiency, reduce delays, and improve the quality of infrastructure projects. This move is expected to foster better collaboration among various stakeholders and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. The Prime Minister’s focus on technology and integrated planning reflects a forward-thinking approach to national development, aiming to boost economic growth and improve the standard of living for all Malaysians.
In conclusion, the adoption of BIM by the Malaysian government represents a strategic shift towards leveraging advanced technology to overcome traditional project management challenges. This initiative is poised to streamline the construction process, ensure better resource management, and ultimately contribute to the nation's economic progress and social wellbeing.
