PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians will go to the polls for the 15th general election (GE15) on Nov 19, with early voting set for Nov 15.

At a press conference today, Election Commission (EC) chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh announced that nominations will be on Nov 5.

Ghani said state elections will be held simultaneously with the parliamentary elections in Pahang, Perak and Perlis, where nominations will also take place on Nov 5 and polling on Nov 19.

The other states, which are either controlled by Pakatan Harapan or PAS, have decided to hold their state elections only upon completion of their full term next year.

Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka and Johor held their state elections recently.

Meanwhile, the Bugaya by-election in Semporna, Sabah, will also be held simultaneously with GE15 on Nov 19. The seat fell vacant after its representative, Manis Muka Mohd Darah of Warisan, died of kidney disease on Nov 17, 2020.

Ghani said a total of 21,173,638 voters will be eligible to cast their ballots in the elections.

“The campaigning period is set for 14 days after all the candidates are revealed on Nov 5,” he said.

He said the closing date for early voting application is Oct 23 for Malaysians residing overseas, Oct 28 for agencies or organisations, and Nov 2 for the media, army, police force and election officials.

He also said postal voting for Malaysians residing overseas and agencies or organisations will be held online.

Ghani said EC has appointed 1,486 electoral officers and assistants and has also set up 625 election campaign enforcement teams involving the police, local authorities and party representatives.
