In the present world of uncertainty - the war in Ukraine, the economic slowdown, the climate change and many serious issues the world is facing, Malaysia is providing some comic relief.
We have been recognized as the champion of corruption in the world, no thanks to the greatest heist of the country's wealth by a sitting PM. He has been tried and found guilty by the High Court, endorsed by the Court of Appeal and confirmed by the Federal Court. He has exhausted his legal avenues through the courts.
However, the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat proclaims that this disgraced ex-PM remains an MP. Other ordinary MP who is found guilty by the courts and fined RM2000 or imprisoned for a year or both, he is disqualified as an MP. But this convicted ex-PM, different rules apply according to this Speaker. He does not know the difference between an accused person whose legal means ends with the confirmation by the court of the last resort, the Federal Court, and a convict who is applying for a Royal pardon.
But the Prison Department sees the ridiculous scene of a convict in Parliament and denied the convict from attending the Dewan Rakyat sitting. The convicted ex-PM's lawyer has appealed to the Home Minister regarding this. If that is not enough, the imprisoned MP for Pekan is applying to visit his constituents.
As if these woeful deeds by the ex-PM convict, it is said that the government is allegedly using the rakyat's money to renovate the convicted kleptocrat's cell in Kajang prison and funds to provide transport for Najib. As a convict, he should travel with other prisoners including the prisoners under remand as provided by the Prison Department.
This is not the only funny episode happening in Malaysia. We have a corrupt head of MACC, the country's anti-corruption commission. He is an untouchable man when even the government forbade demonstration to remove him as head of MACC. Is that because, I speculate, this guy has evidence of corrupt practices of government leaders?
There is the matter of MPs being barred from attending Parliament. The police force guarded the entrance to Parliament without any rhyme or reason but just following orders from upstairs. These MPs are the rakyat's representatives elected to defend and protect our interests but prevented from doing their work.
There are many more laughable issues happening in the country including this halal issue that lifts are declared halal and haram.
The world is watching. It's time we for us to get rid of these clowns in the next General Elections 15 so the world could see Malaysia does not deserve to be the laughing stork.
