KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor will join Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s delegation for the Malaysia-Indonesia Annual Consultation in Jakarta on July 29.
Key discussions will include the Sulawesi Sea maritime boundary.
Anwar said their participation is essential, as any border agreement must be approved by the Sabah and Sarawak governments.

Responding to a question about the 2002 ICJ ruling on Ligitan and Sipadan, Anwar said the matter is unrelated to ongoing Sulawesi Sea negotiations, which remain unresolved.
He noted that the 2023 Sulawesi Sea Treaty includes a non-disclosure clause and stressed that talks with Indonesia, led by President Prabowo Subianto, aim for compromise while preserving sovereignty and friendly ties.
Anwar said Malaysia remains committed to resolving the issue through dialogue, without straining military or diplomatic relations.
