Malaysia and Indonesia explore expanded health cooperation in digital health, traditional medicine, healthy ageing and environmental health to tackle emerging diseases
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Indonesia are exploring new areas of health cooperation, including digital health, traditional and complementary medicine, healthy ageing and environmental health, to address emerging challenges such as zoonotic diseases and dengue.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the matters were among those discussed during his bilateral meeting with the Indonesian delegation on the sidelines of the 17th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting (AHMM) today.
He said the meeting also discussed efforts to expand implementation of the health Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Jakarta on July 29 last year.
“This includes expressing appreciation for the continued confidence in making Malaysia a leading health tourism destination, which generated more than RM2.2 billion in revenue through 968,706 visits in 2025,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Dr Dzulkefly said the meeting on the sidelines of the meeting aimed to discuss various aspects of strategic health cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
“The MADANI Government will continue to take strategic and proactive measures to strengthen the resilience of the country’s health system, including through regional bilateral cooperation that can ensure the sustainability, continuity and quality of public health services for the well-being of the people,” he said.
The 17th AHMM is being held in Kuala Lumpur from Sept 7 to 11, chaired by Malaysia, with Myanmar as Vice Chair, under the theme “Healthy ASEAN: Together Towards Equitable, Future-Ready Health Systems”.
