KUALA LUMPUR — Strong bilateral relations between Malaysia and Indonesia are essential to ensuring sustainable economic growth while safeguarding the welfare of workers in both countries, says Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.
He said the matter was discussed during a courtesy visit by Indonesia’s Minister for the Protection of Migrant Workers, Mukhtarudin, and his delegation to his office.
Ramanan said the meeting focused on strengthening strategic cooperation in labour management and worker welfare between the two neighbouring nations.
“The meeting discussed various matters related to cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia, particularly in the aspects of management, protection as well as the development of manpower involving Indonesian citizens in this country,” he said, as reported by MalaysiaGazette on May 22.
He added that Malaysia and Indonesia share a long-standing bilateral relationship that continues to expand across multiple strategic sectors.
These include trade, investment, security and labour cooperation, he said.
“Malaysia and Indonesia are neighbouring countries and strategic partners at regional and international levels.
“The long-standing bilateral relationship reflects comprehensive cooperation covering various fields including trade, investment, security, labour as well as people-to-people relations between both countries,” he said.
Ramanan said close cooperation between both countries is not only important for strengthening regional economic resilience but also for ensuring that migrant workers receive adequate protection and support.
He expressed hope that Malaysia–Indonesia relations would continue to be strengthened for the mutual benefit and well-being of the people in both countries.
