Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysia International Travel Mart (MITM) plays a vital role in putting Sabah on the global tourism map, said Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew.
Liew said the three-day travel fair organised by MITM was not just an exhibition but a platform where ideas were exchanged, deals were made and collaborations forged.
“MITM is not just about showcasing destinations. It also opens doors to experiences, cultures and connections the world needs to see and feel.
“Year after year, it brings Sabah closer to the world stage by attracting both domestic and international travellers.
“I am proud to share that the future of Sabah tourism is bright and promising. Our pristine islands, lush rainforests, majestic mountains, rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality are assets the world is eager to experience.
“With strategic partnerships, improved infrastructure and global promotion, we will continue to strengthen our position as a premier travel destination in Southeast Asia,” she said.
Liew was speaking at the official opening of MITM 2025 Travel Fair at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Saturday.
She also welcomed the presence of important partners, including the Philippines Tourism Board, Tourism Malaysia, Sabah Tourism Board, Chong Qing Tourism Board, Chengdu Tourism Board and Royal Brunei Airlines.
“Their participation adds depth, diversity and international reach to MITM while reinforcing the importance of regional cooperation in promoting Sabah as a premier destination.
“This progress reflects more than just numbers, but also vision and commitment from stakeholders who believe that Sabah’s tourism potential is limitless,” said Liew.
At the same time, she said she believed that Sabah tourism would not only recover but also thrive with continuous innovation, collaboration and dedication from industry players, government partners and community leaders.
“We will see increasing visitor numbers, stronger tourism revenue and, most importantly, sustainable growth that benefits our people and preserves our natural wonders.
“Let us work hand in hand to let the whole world know that Sabah is more than just a destination… it is an unforgettable experience.
“To the organisers, exhibitors, partners and everyone who has contributed to making this year’s MITM Travel Fair a success, thank you for your hard work, passion and vision.
“May this year’s event be the best yet, and may the years ahead bring even greater success for Sabah tourism.”
